One Lousy Employee Can Kill You

It may be the economy, but I have noticed in the last year or so, that there seems to be a rapid increase in the level of really pathetic people taking jobs that a good person should have. If unemployment is truly as bad as everyone claims, the selection of people for any position should be broad enough, that the better folks should float to the top of the hiring heap and those who want to treat the job like a prison sentence should do us all a favor and mimic the Lemmings and go march themselves into the sea.

While we all know that many jobs have a mind numbing aspect to them and on top of that they don’t pay too well, it’s hard to have sympathy for anyone in these jobs who make them worse by being as insipid, nasty and moronic as is humanly possible. You perpetuate your own nightmare and add to not only your misery, but that of those you encounter while doing your job.

Here are some really bizarre examples of lousy employees I have encountered recently. See if you haven’t had similar experiences in your company.

Amazon Affiliate Program

Recently, I created a web site called Celebrity Sanctuary. The intent of this site was to provide a great amount of celebrity information and to create a new home for my Dead Celebrities list which had been living on my web site Genealogyland for almost three years.

Since I knew that this new site would take volumes of time to complete, I looked for ways to make money off the site. Amazon was the obvious possibility because it offered a wide variety of DVD and CD products that I figured could easily sell. I signed up for the program and got approved.

Brand Expansion Gone Wrong

Most of you have favorite places to eat in your town. Most of these places are based on a single unit success. The best Wing Place, the best Pizza Shop, the best Steak House, the best place to get breakfast are familiar to all of us. Many of these one shot wonders have a particular item they are known for and they give the public that one item consistently, without fail.

The public raves! You should open in my neighborhood, we love to have you just around the corner. So many of these one shot wonders have begun to expand, either through franchising or through opening addition units. Where the product is consistent and still as good, there have been great success stories; where it isn’t you have Branding Expansion Gone Wrong.

I’m going to give you three examples of Brand Expansion Gone Wrong from my region of the country.

A Web Site for Every Business

One of the key things I do with Marketing Sanctuary is create web sites for businesses. I am a firm believer that every legitimate business should have a web site. It doesn’t matter what size the business is, they should have a presence on the Internet.

Why? Because people expect it and acknowledge it as a credential for a business.
